  • Unified Silla Period

    • In the 16th year of King Gyeongdeok of Silla it was renamed Gimje-gun
  • Goryeo Dynasty

    • In the 21st year of Injong of Goryeo it was raised from Jeonjumok to Gimjehyeon
    • In the 1st year of King Myeongjong of Goryeo it was raised to Jeonjumok to Geumguhyeon
  • Joseon Dynasty

    • In 1466(the 12th year of Sejo of Joseon) Gimjehyeon was renamed Gimje-gun
    • In 1628(the 20th year of Gwanghaegun of Joseon) Mangyeonghyeon was absorbed into Gimje-gun
    • In 1759(the 35th year of Yeongjo of Joseon) Mangyeong-gun and Geumgu-gun were merged
  • Period of Japanese occupation

    • In 1895(the 32nd year of Gojong of Korea) it was divided into Mangyeong-gun and Geumgu-gun
    • In 1914 Mangyeong-gun and Geumgu-gun were merged
    • 1931.11. 1 Gimje-myeon was raised to eup
    • In 1935 Ssanggam-myeon and Suryu-myeon were renamed Hwangsan-myeon and Geumgu-myeon
    • Hari-myeon and Chocheo-myeon were renamed Bongnam-myeon(1 eup 15 myeon)
  • Period of the government establishment

    • In 1949 Gwanghwal-myeon was divided from Jinbong-myeon(1 eup 16 myeon)
    • 1961. 10. 1 Local government system of Gimje-gun was launch as a result of abolition of Myeon system.
    • 1989. 1. 1 Gimje-eup, Wolchon · Baeksan-myeon(Ha·Heungsa·Sangdong-ri), Bongnam-myeon(Wolseong-ri), Hwangsan-myeon(Nanbong·Hwangsan·Ojeong-ri) of Gimje-gun were raised to Gimje-si and divided into administrative districts(15 myeon)
    • 1990. 8. 1 (presidential decree no.13406 was announced on ’90. 7. 9) Some of Bongnam-myeon(Yangjeon·Seojeong·Dojang-ri) were incorporated into Gimje-si from Gimje-gun and changed into administrative districts(15 myeon)
    • 1994. 12. 26 (presidential decree no.14434) Geumpyeong-ri, Yongji-myeon was incorporated into Iseo-myeon, Wanju-gun, and Namjeong-ri, Yongji-myeon and Baekgu-myeon(Dodo·Gangheung·Dodeok-ri) were incorporated into Jeonju-si
    • 1994. 12. 29 (Gimje-gun ordinance no.1435) Sanggyo Village, Namsang-ri, Hwangsan-myeon, Gimje-gun was incorporated into Daesong-ri, Bongnam-myeon
    • 1995. 1. 1 (law no.4774) Gimje-si and Gimje-gun were merged, and Gimje-si was established newly
    • 1995. 3. 2 (Gimje-si ordinance no.121) Mangyeong-myeon was raised into Mangyeong-eup
    • 1998. 9. 26 (Gimje-si ordinance no.245) gwa, so and dong were merged(1 eup, 14 myeon and 4 dong) Yochon-dong, Seoheung-dong → Yochon-dong Sinpung-dong, Bonghwang-dong → Sinpung-dong Gyo-dong, Wolchon-dong → Gyo-dong Wolchon-dong
    • 2011. 12. 26 (the administrative operation agreement installation in the Gimje and chief of a dong office integer revision of ordinance) the Gyodongweolchon building → Gyowol-dong
