Village History
Simpo district was called ‘Gipeulgae’ because it was originally along the seashore in Haildo-myeon, Mangyeong-gun. When the administrative districts were reorganized, the village was formed on the southern slope of Jinbongsan Mountain. Since the district is deeply indented from the sea, the village was used as a harbor from long ago and called ‘Simpo’ meaning harbor extending far into the sea.
