The village consists of hills of less than 30m above sea level and plains. Seongdeoksan Mountain was named as it was told that ‘lots of men of virtue were produced there due to the splendid mountains and rivers scattered here and there’. It also played significant military roles in the past. The village is the town of loyalty producing respectable persons, including the great scholar Haehak Yi Gi at the end of the Joseon period, and keeps warmth as the hometown where deeply-rooted tradition is alive.

Kim Soo-yeon, who was honored with the "3rd Jeonbuk Adult Prize“ on Sep. 23, 2003 established "Hakseong Hall" at his own expense. This institution is well-known as a place where about 1,000 students train their body and mind through Chinese classics and Taekwondo, representing the pride of the residents.

Since May 1984, Nampo Bookstore has been serving as the community and study room. Currently, it serves as the village culture center with over 5,000 books and 11 computers. It has been also favored by teenagers by operating the Farming Village Culture Experience and Learning Program every year from 2003 and community IT classes from 2000. It established a sisterhood relationship with Saemaeul Bookstore in Bucheon on Nov. 21, 2002 and a sisterhood relationship with the Computer Research Society of Wongwang University on Jun. 30, 2003. Moreover, the village has been producing products, including functional potatoes, rice using freshwater, snail farming techniques, Cordyceps militaris, and cherry tomatoes in response to the growing wellness trend.
