Hwangto Village is a place with a painful history. When the Korean War began on Jun. 25, 1950 a tragic event of fratricidal occurred. People fled their hometowns in search of freedom and found refuge in the hills. Thus, the village is the area has a strong will for life and commmunity spirit.

The East and West Unity Festival was held in Hwangto Village to celebrate the ‘Inter-Korea Summit Talks’ on Jan. 10, 2001, including the exchange of local specialties with Bongsang Village, Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Nation-wide events, the Jeonju-Gunsan 100-ri Road Cherry Blossom Festival and the Cherry Blossom Marathon pass through the village every April. Additionally, the village is famous for the Red Clay Festival held in August and September every year, which focuses on local agricultural products. This event provides visitors with various attractions and food offerings. During the Hwango Festival, various activities are organized to ensure the high quality of the Yongji Hwango agricultural products and promote community harmony. Moreover, the region generates a significant cultural buzz with the Gimje Horizon Festival held every Oct. Hwangto Village hopes for great interest from netizens to become the most livable farming village as well as increasing the farmers’ income through the Informatization Model Village.
